Morris Yachts’ M36 A Mighty Little Boat! Greatest Effort to Attend Show! Sailed from Benodet France to Southampton in 46 hours,
The American delivery crew of Sales Manager Eric Roos and Marketing and PR Director Marnie Read flew to Benodet France on Wednesday, September 3 to pick up the boat and hoped to complete the 280nm trip to Southampton in five days to make their move time of Tuesday afternoon. It was not to happen. They sat out for three days as a Force 9-11 gale passed through. Finally on Sunday the 9th, they got a window and set sail across the Bay of Biscay. Strong seas and wind on the nose for the first 12 hours but favorable winds and tides brought them through the Point de Raz and around the NW corner of France. Winds moderated and shifted as the crew sailed until 0130hr in the morning. Tied up at a commercial dock in Isle de Batz for 6 hours sleep. Fuel was found in Trebeurdon and the crew shed their foulies as the sun shone brightly. At this point they had been underway for 19 hours and covered 101nm. SW breezes allowed the autopilot to take on the task of steering and the crew took watch shifts to get more sleep as the destination of Guernsey was 70nm away. By dusk the winds had picked back up, to 20-30mph. They arrived at Queen Victoria Marina at 2330hrs.
In the morning, after a check of the weather, Force 3-5 predicted out of the SW perfect for crossing the Channel to charge into Southampton. Conditions remained true all day. The M36 proved that while categorized as a daysailer she was fully capable of handling the 4-8ft following seas plus the occasional 10+ breaker. It was a surfing safari. The crew made to their berth by 0530hr Wed.
Morris Yachts is pleased to be showing the M36 their 11m daysailer for the first time at the UK’s Southampton Boat Show. Not new to the European boat show circuit, the firm has shown in Düsseldorf for the past two years and showed in HISWA last fall and has been patiently waiting their turn on the SBS waiting list.
