Like all Morris X-Types, Ranger benefits from a tall carbon fiber rig, high-performance 3Di sails from North Sails, and a carbon fiber sprit that increases A-sail efficiency. It also has a deep, high-aspect ratio fin keel to provide rock-solid stability and enhanced sail carrying ability. It’s carbon fiber wheel delivers finger-tip control, and it’s slippery fast hull was faired to ultra-precise tolerances and covered with drag reducing bottom paint.

The truth is, we knew our X-Types were going to be fast. We just didn’t realize we’d be creating a whole new genre of Racer/Daysailers that could give the much more aggressive looking raceboats a run for their money, and what we think was the prettiest “race” boat on the NYYC cruise.

In fact, Weg’s Ranger was the perfect boat for the legendary America’s Cup designer and syndicate head, John Marshall to race on during the cruise. He was one of several experienced “ringers” with America’s Cup experience on board, so it’d be an understatement to say that Marshall and crew know a thing or two about fast boats. Since Ranger was capable of boatspeeds in the teens (off the breeze with A-sail), they had speed to burn.

And you have to admit, Ranger complimented Weg’s 96-foot Princess Yacht Livernano—the mothership of the cruise—beautifully.
